GST Calculator

Add GST to a price or remove it from a GST-inclusive price at the current 5%, 18% or 40% rates, with the CGST, SGST or IGST split.

Enter a price, choose the GST rate and whether the price already includes GST.

Since 22 September 2025 the main GST rates are 5%, 18% and 40%, with 0% for many essentials. Check the rate for your exact goods or service code (HSN/SAC).

The right rate depends on the HSN or SAC code of the goods or service - check it before you raise an invoice.

What Is the GST Calculator?

It adds Goods and Services Tax to a price, or takes it out of a price that already includes GST, and shows how the tax splits between the central and state governments. It uses the rates that apply since GST 2.0 took effect on 22 September 2025, and lets you enter any other rate.

How to Use It

  1. Choose Add GST for a price before tax, or Remove GST for a price that already includes it.
  2. Enter the price and choose the GST rate.
  3. Choose whether the sale is within your state (CGST + SGST) or to another state (IGST).

Example

A bill of ₹11,800 including 18% GST breaks down into a price of ₹10,000 and GST of ₹1,800. For a sale within the same state, that is ₹900 CGST and ₹900 SGST; for a sale to another state, the whole ₹1,800 is IGST.

The Formulas

  • Adding GST: GST = price × rate ÷ 100, and total = price + GST.
  • Removing GST: price = total ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100). Do not just take 18% off the total - that gives the wrong answer.

Current GST Rates

Since 22 September 2025, most goods and services fall into three main rates: 5% for many essentials, 18% as the standard rate, and 40% for luxury and sin goods such as pan masala and large cars. Many essentials are at 0%, and special rates such as 3% for gold remain. The old 12% and 28% slabs were largely removed, but you may still see them on older invoices.

Limitations

The right rate depends on the exact HSN or SAC code of what you sell, and some items carry a cess on top. Input tax credit, reverse charge and composition-scheme rules are not covered. For percentages in general, use the Percentage Calculator; to write an invoice amount in words, use the Number to Words Converter.

Frequently Asked Questions

Since 22 September 2025 (GST 2.0), the main rates are 5%, 18% and 40%, with 0% for many essentials and special rates such as 3% for gold. Most items once taxed at 12% or 28% moved to 5% or 18%.

Divide the total by 1 plus the rate. For 18%: ₹11,800 ÷ 1.18 = ₹10,000, so the GST is ₹1,800. Taking 18% off the total gives the wrong figure.

For a sale within one state, GST is split equally between the central (CGST) and state (SGST or UTGST) governments. For a sale to another state, the whole amount is IGST.

Look up the HSN code for goods or the SAC code for services in the official GST rate schedules. The rate depends on the exact item, not just its category.
