Lorem Ipsum Generator

What Is the Lorem Ipsum Generator?

Lorem ipsum is the scrambled Latin placeholder text that designers and developers use to fill a layout before the real copy is ready. It looks like natural text - words of different lengths, sentences and paragraphs - without distracting anyone into reading it. This generator gives you exactly as much as you need.

When to Use Placeholder Text

• Website and app mockups, so you can judge spacing and typography.
• Testing how a template handles short and long content.
• Filling a CMS or a test database with sample posts.

How to Use It

1. Choose how many paragraphs, sentences, words or list items you want.
2. Pick plain text, HTML or Markdown.
3. Leave the first box ticked to begin with the familiar "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..." sentence.
4. Click Generate, then copy or download the text.

Example

Two paragraphs in HTML give you two <p> elements. The first starts with Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua. and every paragraph has four to seven sentences of six to fifteen words. Choosing List items with HTML returns a ready-made <ul> list.

Where Lorem Ipsum Comes From

The text is based on a passage from Cicero's De finibus bonorum et malorum, written in 45 BC, with words cut and changed so that it no longer makes sense. Typesetters have used versions of it since at least the 1960s.

Limitations

Placeholder text hides real problems: actual headlines are often longer, product names do not wrap like Latin, and languages such as German or Hindi produce very different line lengths. Test with real content before launch, and never publish pages that still contain lorem ipsum - search engines treat them as empty. Use the Word Counter to match a target length.
