Keyword Density Checker

Paste your content to see the most used words and two- and three-word phrases with their counts and density, plus your focus keyword's share.

Paste the text of a page or article to see which words and phrases it repeats most.

There is no ideal keyword density - write for readers first and use this to spot accidental repetition.

What Is Keyword Density?

Keyword density is how often a word or phrase appears in a text, as a percentage of all words. If an 800-word article uses coffee grinder eight times, the phrase has a density of 1%. This checker lists the words and two- and three-word phrases your text repeats most, and shows the density of a focus keyword you enter.

Why Check It

  • To spot accidental repetition that makes text tiring to read.
  • To make sure the page actually mentions the topic you want it to rank for.
  • To catch keyword stuffing before you publish - Google's spam policies name it explicitly.

How to Use It

  1. Paste the text of your article or page (copy it from the page, not the HTML source).
  2. Optionally enter your focus keyword.
  3. Leave Ignore common words ticked so words such as the and and do not fill the tables.
  4. Read the three tables: single words, two-word phrases and three-word phrases.

Example

A 47-word paragraph about word counters uses the phrase word counter four times, a density of 8.51%. The tool flags this in amber - it is high for such a short text and reads as repetitive. Rewriting two of the mentions as "it" or "the tool" would bring it down without losing meaning.

What Is a Good Keyword Density?

There is no ideal number. Search engines understand synonyms and topics, and no official guideline names a target percentage. In natural writing, a main phrase usually lands somewhere around 0.5% to 2%, but treat that as an observation, not a rule. Write for the reader and use the tables to spot words you have overused.

Limitations

The checker counts exact words, so grinder and grinders are counted separately. The list of common words to ignore is English-only. It analyses the text you paste and does not fetch pages from the internet. For overall length and reading time, use the Word Counter; to check page titles, use the Meta Title Checker.

Frequently Asked Questions

There is no ideal figure, and search engines do not use a target percentage. Mention your topic naturally, use related words, and reduce repetition that reads awkwardly.

No. Paste the text of the page instead - select it in your browser and copy it. The checker works only on text you provide.

Common English words are ignored by default so the tables show meaningful words. Untick "Ignore common words" to include them.
