The title you set here is what browsers and search engines show for the PDF instead of the file name.

What Is PDF Metadata?

Every PDF can carry hidden properties: a title, author, subject, keywords, the app that created it and the dates it was created and changed. Browsers show the title in the tab, search engines can show it in results, and anyone can read the author name. This tool shows these properties and lets you change or clear them.

How to Use It

  1. Choose a PDF. Its size, page count, page size and dates appear, and the fields are filled in.
  2. Edit any field, or click Clear All Fields to remove them.
  3. Click Save Changes to download the updated file.

When It Helps

  • Before sharing: remove an author name or an old company name left from a template.
  • For websites: set a clear title so the PDF shows properly in search results and browser tabs.
  • For records: add keywords that make files easier to find on your computer.

Limitations

Only the standard document properties are edited. Some PDFs also store an XMP metadata block, and photos inside the PDF can carry their own EXIF data; those are not changed. The modification date is set to now when you save. To check what is inside an image file, use the Image Metadata Viewer.
